Dr. Mikael Olsson is a social scientist that for some 20 years has worked extensively with contemporary issues relating to societal transformations in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. He has held positions with the Dept. of East European Studies, Uppsala University, the Stockholm Institute for Transition Economics (SITE), Stockholm School of Economics, the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) and the National Institute for Working Life. He currently works as an analyst with the Baltic Sea Unit of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) on the island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea and will as of 2010 lead a new research project entitled Markets & Regions, which focuses on region building and the long term sustainability and potential integrative effects of capital mobility and investment in the Baltic Sea Region. He is also engaged in a project which analyses privatisation and state ownership in Sweden.
